July Intro & Plotting Meme Welcome to the game!
As this is our very first app cycle, everyone is new! We encourage everyone to fill out the form below to introduce themselves and their characters.

The first IC event log will be posted on July 15th, introducing the game's first round of imprints. We don't have a setting yet for anyone to play in, so please sit tight until then!

We'd also like to give a final reminder that everything on the May and June TDMs are non-canon, as the imprints used for the TDM setting will not all be carried over. You are welcome to discuss and handwave IC introductions between characters based on their TDM interactions, but any locations, creatures or special effects used exclusively for the TDM may not be remembered by characters.

I was just trying to watch them chronologically based on their release dates no one recommended it to me. Actually! I just realized that I had forgotten that I watched Unlimited Blade Works from 2010, so not the more recent one but it wasn't bad. I'm slowly starting to recall details from it. Wow, I really blanked on it's existence for a while there. I guess I should confess the dumb reason I started down this road..... there was a crossover in one of my mobile games with the 2014 Unlimited Blade Works so I got curious enough to give it a shot, then I didn't even get to the series the crossover was for because I was like 'watch them in order'.

That's what is so good about rp! It's always surprising you with gems like that.

Oh I just meant it's a common thing that I don't know why people rec it that much! But yeah watch the UBW series, then the Heaven's Feel movies (a trilogy, the 3rd isn't out yet but should be soon if all goes well) to see the third story route. THEN maybe try revisiting Zero, because while it won't negate the Urobuchi-ness you'll at least have full context for what's going on. Zero is a prequel that kinda assumes some familiarity with the original, after all!

I gotcha! I didn't know that was a thing in this fandom, but now I do. I guess they might recommend it so new viewers can watch it in chronological order rather than by sensical order. I'm in the middle of a book series where I just decided to read it in chronological instead of publication so I can see the appeal in that way. Still- with as instantaneously dark and depressing as Zero is (at least for me since mileages likely vary), it's not the best introduction for potential new viewers.

Truth!

I tend to stay to the fringes of the fandom (for... a lot of reasons) and even so I've heard people bring up recommending Zero multiple times, so! XD But yeah it's super dark and nasty and unless you like Urobuchi's storytelling in general, it probably works way better when you have context and know that it's just the backstory you already were vaguely aware of but now are getting details filled in. I think it was just a big hit when it first came out and brought in new Fate/ fans at the time (probably people who already liked Urobuchi's style!) and older fans just.... failed to realize it's not always the best introduction.

It's one of the BEST things about RP and I've never understood why some people are so reluctant to just let a thread meander where it will!

The fringe is just where the cool people gather, ok (no questions asked!). I did know that it was a prequel before I started it and was aware of some of the implications from the previous series but I'm sure there are more gaps to fill too. Random but If I recall correctly I think I was impressed by the animation of Zero though. You can definitely tell that it has been a while since I watched any of it.

I quite agree. I have known a few rpers that want to plot things out from start to finish and strictly adhere to it, but you lose spontaneity with that. I prefer a mix of like mild planning, but mostly try this and see.

Yeah you're definitely missing out on some stuff. Like, the thing with the three routes? Fate is Saber's route, UBW is Rin's, and Heaven's Feel is Sakura's. So for example, you're not gonna have the full picture of what's going on with the Matou family in Zero until you know what the deal was/how that came to a head in Heaven's Feel.

And yes, exactly! Or some planning to fill in the gaps of stuff that's simply too much to thread out all the time, once it's clear where things are going. But the wait and see approach is so much more fun, if I wanted to plan everything out, I'd just go write fanfic. ;)

I'm sure that would make a lot more sense with all those under your belt first. I didn't really feel lost in Zero, but I probably would have if I had gotten further in. So right now I'm thinking UBW (the newer one) is the way to go just like you recommended. I loved Rin in the anime I watched so I'm cautiously optimistic of the prospect of seeing her in something again.

Precisely! We are on the same wavelength here. I'm definitely willing to iron out bits like that when necessary. Ha! It would be like writing a fanfic, that's for sure.

Zero is mostly self-contained in a way but like.... having context adds a lot. Makes some things go from "well that's horrible for that poor character" to "... oh. So that's what happened to them....." and so on! And yes definitely check out the newer UBW anime. It's pretty solid! And has lots of Rin. :)

I do tabletop RP too so I'm very used to the idea of improvising and simply rolling with whatever comes my way. Nothing like having a super epic idea for a thing and then the dice tell you that nah, you just lost your grip on your fancy magical weapon at the wrong moment!

Mm, as it would. Lol, they just need to slap a label on it saying "context required". That last bit is like like dangling a carrot down a rabbit hole. There's lots of Rin! If I wasn't sneaking in a little more canon review, I might have started watching it today.

That makes sense. You have to be adaptable for that style of gaming, since sometimes when the dice come down they don't always favor you.

I mean, if you're into Urobuchi stuff, it's perfectly fine as a standalone! But if you're not.... welp. And pfffft believe me I can dangle plenty of carrots if I tried! ;)

If you don't wanna spend the whole session trying to figure out how to manipulate your stats to get the result you want then yes, exactly. XD Plus, y'know, surprises are fun!

I dare say that would be more frustrating and time consuming than just going with the flow XD. Indeed they are!

I mean, it's like life in general. You can plan for things, but you can never control it, so when a delayed flight or a typhoon interrupt part of your vacation plans, better to just make the best of the situation rather than be miserable and upset about it!

Oh wow. That's nuts! I was on a vacation once where a hurricane- ..... somewhat ironically was a source for some concern but I lucked out there, and didn't have to alter anything. Plus the storm lost strength so win-win.

I literally can't wait.

Yeah I had my initial flight delayed by multiple things (NONE of them the airline/crew's fault, one delay was the previous plane at the gate took its sweet time clearing out, the other was a passenger had boarded who turned out to be REALLY sick and had to leave.... which meant they had to go through all the luggage to find theirs....) and then a week later I got to have fun attempting to get from Kyoto to Sendai the day after Hagibis hit Tokyo. Fun times!

Poor Cu, STILL STUCK AS A 3 STAR....

Oh geeze, that's rough! That reminds me of one of my friend's last trip to Canada. Her flight got delayed and switched like a dozen times, then when she got there the airline couldn't find her luggage. Well- they could find part of it but not her much-needed medical supplies. They eventually figured it out by the next day but it was touch and go in the meantime. To have all those things happen during one trip though! I'm sorry it happened to you but at least you got through it. Was the rest of the trip good?

See, for me, I made things work out! For example the delayed flight/missed connection meant unexpectedly spending a night in Sidney, so rather than mope in my hotel room about interrupted plans, I caught the train to the bay and ended up being able to get in on a showing of West Side Story at the opera house! Sometimes you just gotta improvise and adapt~

See, in FGO, Cu is a mere silver servant, not even a SR.... and yet is easily still one of the top servants in the game due to sheer cockroach power. XD

That's a pretty sweet alternative. Least they gave you enough knowledge ahead of time that you knew relatively how much time you had to hang in Sydney. I don't think my friend had that luxury, they just kept changing the time and having them wait nearby so they could board whenever. Did you get to take a lot of pictures on your trip?

That feels unfair because of how much I like his VA. ~~There's logic in there somewhere~~. Though I really got hooked on that VA from Getbackers. At least Cu ,akes up for it in raw power!

Yeah, the flight that I missed due to the delay was one of those "only flies once a day" routes sooo there were no other options. And of course~ Lots and LOTS of pictures. :D

I mean, he DOES have an Alter version that's an SSR (and also Berserker class) but all the regular Cus are lowly 3 stars. AND YET plain old original FSN Cu manages to be one of the most useful characters in the game, I still occasionally toss him into high-level parties for stuff at times!

That is kinda weird that he mostly gets 3 stars only but I'm glad he's still viable in combat.

See now that's the kind of situation where you start demanding compensation to make up for the trouble! Especially if it's due to the airline screwing up, not like... a natural disaster or something.

I think it has to do with the fact that Cu was one of the servants part of the release at start and just happened to get stuck with that rarity. Though ironically while others have been power creeped over time CU'S STILL GOING STRONG despite his lowly status. :D

I think they were just so relieved to get there and finally get their luggage they cut their losses. Can't say I blame them, but yes I agree. That would have been a prime time to speak up.

That makes sense. That's one of those games where I feel like it would have been more fun to be in it at the start, but I'm not sure if that's true. Well good for him, you show them elitists!

I had a similar fun time with getting from Kyoto to Sendai after the typhoon. I was able to get to Tokyo just fine, but the northbound trains from there were all indefinitely delayed with no eta. So I had to figure out how on earth I was going to get the REST of the way there while continuing to periodically check to see if the trains had started running again. I ended up hitting up the FGO cafe in Akihabara while I was waiting. |Db

I mean, all the story content's still there, the only things you'd have missed if you start playing right now is some of the events. And even those you'll eventually get a chance to play through the story portions (not the full event) because that's a thing now in the jp version.

Lol! You never know what may happen, so clearly there's a need for precaution.

I can only imagine how the typhoon had everything tied up, those can be nasty storms for sure. It definitely made it an adventure for you trying to find a way to get from place to place. I didn't know there was a FGO café. I'm so jealous of the cafés Japan gets! Well Taiwan too since both have had YGO cafés at various points in time. ~~I would have liked to have gone to a Sailor Moon café too~~.

Admittedly I only barely remember the story portion I did get through. My phone couldn't handle the game when it was newer, so I had to wait until I got a diff phone and by then I just played the intro and quit. LOL. I have way too many phone games, but I sometimes wish I could play them all. I just thought the early summons sound most appealing.
