June Test Drive Meme

Test Drive Meme #2 New Locations Scenarios Comments
Welcome to Tabula Rasa's Test Drive Meme! This meme will be structured the same as an event or intro mingle so you can get a feel for how the game will be after it opens. Anyone is welcome to use this meme whether you plan to apply or not, and we will not be policing what characters or canons choose to play on here. Use it as you'd like and have fun!

Please note that none of the locations and changes described below will be included in the game when it opens. To help create an accurate impression of the game, we have included several imprints suggested by prospective players from the TDM Imprints Submissions. These prompts and locations are only for the TDM. A new arrangement of imprints will be picked when the game opens, which will likely look completely different from the TDM. Please keep this in mind when applying to the game in the future.

As this is our second TDM, you can find more detailed descriptions of the TDM-only locations on TDM #1. Feel free to use prompts from the previous TDM as well if you missed out on it!

Threads from the TDM may be used as samples on your application. TDM samples must be 2 threads with different characters, each with at least 5 comments from your character. Responding to other players on the TDM will also be part of an AC bonus, so we encourage anyone who plans to app to tag out to other players as well.

New Location: The Fendt Hope Library
Across from the USJ dome stands an enormous six-floor castle. The entrance boasts a large open room decorated with hanging bird cages, colorful teddy bears of varying sizes, and books. Many, many books, filling shelves that line every wall of the room. Traveling further within, there are hundreds of rooms and hallways arranged almost like a hotel, except every room is its own miniature library. Each room has the same layout, including a desk with a lamp, a round table with chairs in the center, a ladder, and rows of shelves on every wall. Teddy bears have been placed around each room, some of them sitting in chairs or on top of shelves and stacks of books. Many of the rooms feature large square windows with gold curtains drawn.

On the first floor near the entrance is a small tavern-like area with a bar, also surrounded by bookshelves on all sides. There are several wooden tables with chairs for guests to sit, though teddy bears have been placed in some of the seats. A large person-sized bear is seated behind the bar. The only shelf that isn't full of books is instead filled with old wine bottles.

There is a staircase that goes down to the basement, where more hallways and library rooms can be found. The basement rooms are much dingier with gray stone walls and no windows, though otherwise look the same as the other library rooms. Notably, the doors in the basement rooms can only be locked from the outside.

Scenario A: Think Positive!
The world has been filled with many things - animals, plants, people, objects... and among those objects, something has stood out. Objects that demand a greater purpose, to be filled with energy that they cannot themselves create. They have not gone unnoticed, and so, too, does the world notice. Machines are more complex than blocks of metal and plastic. Lights are more than wire and glass. What is it that breathes the life into them that people have come to expect?

Finally, the answer has become clear. Anger, disappointment, frustration: these are all feelings that have been poured into these lifeless objects. Energy, such as electricity, must surely come from those emotions.

That isn't to say making electricity is a simple task, or one that can be so easily controlled. A strong emotion can be quite shocking, but that strength must be maintained to power something for more than a few seconds. But you don't want to be electrocuting everyone you come into contact with, either, so with a bit of coordination, a group of people will have much better luck than one person by themselves.

A crowd in the Heavenly Blanc is enough to make the lights flicker, and you might even be able to get the jukebox going. The music sounds a bit strange, with titles and lyrics that almost seem jumbled together from several different songs, but a tune is still a tune. The lighthouse arcade is especially lively, machines buzzing and blaring with noise the moment anyone steps in, though you'll need a friend or two to play along if you want it to get the game to start. The games, too, seem like a bit of a jumbled mess - or maybe Initial DANCE Taikoaster Versus is just ahead of its time.

Most electronics will now function, provided they have the energy source to do so. More advanced functions may not work correctly, such as long-distance connections. The more complex the device, the more emotional power you'll need to use it.

Scenario B: Take A Look, It's In A Book
With the addition of a another library, books have become an important feature to the world's landscape. Words that were once a jumbled mess have been reformed, arranged into something that can now be understood. Unfortunately, there is still a lack of content to fill every book in the world - most of them are identical copies of the same few books, though there may be slight variations between copies.

Geography contains an accurate map of the known world, including detailed descriptions and sketches of important landmarks and buildings. Any observations that people have made thus far have been noted here, including a few direct quotes. It also describes some of the flora and fauna, though it doesn't go into much detail beyond where they can be found. Each copy has a chapter at the end titled "The Rest Of The World" containing hundreds of blank pages.

Regional Pokédex is a bestiary of all the creatures currently residing in the world. There are only 5 entries, with the rest of the book filled with the same image of a large question mark in a circle at the center of each page. Some of the copies of the book use different names for the same creatures, but the first four entries in each copy describes fireys, jellyrabbits, ghowls, and the Eiffel Tower in the style of short observational notes. The average height, weight, and footprint shape of each creature is also listed. The fifth entry has no title, but lists the average height, weight, and approximate footprint shape of every single person in the world as if they were a single species. The descriptions on this page are much more disjointed and contain wildly different information across copies, but all of the entries list observations and physical details of individuals that have arrived in the world.

Questions Vol.1 is a book of questions. Every question about the world that someone has voiced thus far has been listed somewhere in this book. Some questions are detailed and specific, while others are single word questions like "sleep?" There are no answers provided, but some of the pages have handwritten theories underneath that vary between copies. All of the theories match what people have discussed among themselves so far.

Drinks is a recipe book. It lists several recipes for simple drinks one can make with water, alcohol, coffee beans, and tea leaves. Nearly all of the recipes have an alcoholic variant, even when it doesn't make sense. Each recipe includes step by step instructions on how to prepare the ingredients without electricity. This book also details everything people have observed about the world's water supply and its relaxing properties.

Scenario C: Lucky Buns
Luck might seem a simple idea on the surface: if you have good luck, good things happen to you, and if you have bad luck then bad things happen. Where, however, does luck come from? Everyone has different ideas and different superstitions surrounding the concept. One such superstition is tied to rabbits, which is like a fluffy, tentacled creature that swims quietly through the air. A rabbit's luck is tied to its feet. However, touching this particular creature's feet tends to sting and hurt people. On that basis, then, touching the jellyrabbit's feet is clearly bad luck, and so anyone who has felt that sting will experience other forms of bad luck. Whether this comes in the form of trips, falls, getting lost or similar kinds of misfortune relies entirely upon what one's individual idea of bad luck is.

Conversely, touching other parts of the creature must be tied to good luck. Many people do quite like to pet soft and fluffy creatures, after all, so it's only natural that doing so would gift them with good luck. Perhaps they might find things more easily, meet people with similar interests, win games of chance more often, or find a $100 note in their back pocket - money might have no meaning here, but if this is what people consider 'good luck', then that is what will happen.

Once a streak of luck, good or bad, is triggered, it does not wear off on its own. It can only be replaced by luck of an opposing nature, or removed entirely by touching one of the other local creatures.

The creatures' tie to luck is not immediately apparent. Once people learn and understand, however, the information will soon find its way into a copy of the library's Regional Pokédex.

Goro Akechi | Persona 5 Royal

[personal profile] simulatio 2020-06-25 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
1. Library!
a.
[To say that Goro's unsettled upon reading Questions: Vol 1 is an understatement, to say the least. Though it's certainly not a thought unique to him, it's frighteningly similar to the notes he'd been taking back in Heavenly Blanc. Single-word prompts like sleep? lack of thirst/hunger? accompany other word-for-word observations such as "cognition: fire is hot, however, fire does not burn."

The normally-charming smile on his face seems rather fixed as he takes a seat at one of the tables in the middle of the tavern-like room of the library, carefully going over both his own handwritten notes, and what's contained within the newly-discovered Questions book. He can be found with that book, or any of the others, meticulously taking notes. If anything, he almost looks like a normal student working on homework.]

b.
[Or, perhaps a little later, you happen to find what could be mistaken for a grisly murder scene. That is, if the victim in question were filled with fluff and strings rather than blood and gore. The teddy bear murderer isn't hard to find; Goro's standing nearby, unconcernedly picking bits of fluff off a flashy-looking dagger. If anything, he looks almost disappointed as he flicks the knife to dispose of any remaining fluff before slipping it into his inner jacket pocket.]

c.
This is a prison.

[It's a mild observation given by the young man with his hand on his chin as he surveys the basement with a sharp-eyed gaze. As if to prove it, he moves forward, opens one of the doors, and examines the locking mechanism. Gloved hands test the door's latch, then he nods to confirm it.]

While the layout may be mistaken for a hotel, these only lock from the outside. These are to keep someone, or something, inside. I wonder why these are different from those upstairs...

[And then he seems to notice his audience, and covers his mouth with a gloved hand to mask a polite laugh.]

My apologies. I've found that speaking aloud helps me gather my thoughts.
2. Heavenly Blanc
[The jukebox is running, though it's not anything Goro's familiar with. Something still seems strange, though, as he works his way around the crowd of people in the bar and goes to examine the player itself. Just a few hours ago, it was dead and lifeless. What's changed? Power doesn't seem to be consistently "back."

After a beat of studying the machine, he bends down and abruptly pulls the plug. And yet, thanks to the emotions of literally everyone else in the bar, it stays playing music. With a bit of a disgusted frown, Goro stares at the limp cord in his hand and shakes his head before letting the cord fall to the floor.]

Curious...
3. Wildcard!
[Akechi will be generally investigating and causing a minor, if polite, nuisance of himself. Feel free to write another prompt here, or discuss something you'd like to do with me! I'm also still tagging his TDM #1 prompts if something there catches your eye!]

A) Think Positive

[At first, it feels like just the presence of people are what power things here, but it becomes obvious to Izuku pretty soon after hanging around any one of the locations here for any amount of time that it's not just the people. It's their behavior, how they're feeling that's getting things running. It's strange and fascinating, if a bit inconvenient...

He's found himself in Heavenly Blanc after making this very revelation, watching the lights flicker overhead when more people come in. It isn't until a brief argument between patrons near the counter causes a few of the lights directly overhead to buzz ominously before it becomes clear to Izuku that this is probably going to be a bit of a double edged sword...

And sure enough, it comes to pass when two of the lightbulbs overhead suddenly explode when the argument becomes too heated for them to handle, and unfortunately Izuku happened to be sitting right there. And so did you! Hope you're good at picking glass out of your hair.]

Ah- a-are you alright?

B) It's in a Book

[Of course Izuku would eventually find and visit the library, though he can safely say he was NOT expecting there to be this many books. It's honestly almost overwhelming, but it's not like he has much else at his disposal right now...so he'll find something to read through after locating a chair that isn't curently occupied by a bear, said thing happening to be the "Regional Pokedex".

Coming across the page with all of the people listed, though...]

How could someone get all of this information?

C) Lucky Buns

[Izuku loves the jellyrabbits. They're much less stressful to be around compared to the Fireys, and they tend to seem pretty docile so long as you're not attempting to grab hold of their more jellyfish-like parts. They seem to be found just about anywhere too, and Izuku has come across a little cluster of them while visiting the non-fire filled dome of the USJ. They don't seem to mind as he stops in his exploration of the familiar (yet non) area to pet them, gently patting the tops of their umbrella bodies between their ears. He's not the only one near them though, whether you just happened by or wanted to come pet one, too.]

They're really cute, aren't they? If a little strange...

[A]
[Nisha is currently behind the bar of the library dining area, trying to set up a kettle over a small ball of flame. She's never made tea before, and she's not the best at reading, but the instructions seemed to make sense to her... how hard could it be? Surely she can manage this much on her own.

The tea leaves have given her some pause, though. She brought a few different kinds with her... which would be best to use?]

There's black tea, and green tea, and... grey tea? What do you think, Laby?

[She turns to the teddy bartender (a bear-tender, perhaps) seated next to her, an ornate pink mirror propped up on its lap. The bear doesn't say anything, but she frowns after a moment.]

I don't think there's a pink or a purple tea... oh. [finally, she's notices someone else in the room. She smiles softly.] Do you... know anything about tea?

[B]
[A little bit later, she's set up a small tea party in the library. Four warm cups of tea have been arranged at the table, one for each of the guests. There's one for herself, of course, and one for the mirror awkwardly propped up in the seat next to her, and two more for the teddies that were already seated when she came over (it would be rude to tell them to leave!).

She's in the middle of what appears to be a very engaging conversation with an inanimate teddy bear when someone new comes by their table. Nisha pauses, staring at the newcomer for a moment before smiling apologetically.]

Oh, I'm sorry. All these seats are taken... maybe you could ask if Leo could make room? [Leo is, of course, one of the bears.]

[C]
[The arcade is... noisy. So very noisy. But it was already troublesome getting here, so she decides to take a closer look anyway, just to see what it's all about. The flashing lights give her a bit of a headache, but it does all seem very exciting...

She really has no idea what she's doing, though, even if she's managed to figure out that her power can turn these things on now. She's standing on a DDR machine, nervously avoiding the flashing tiles below her as she tries to make sense of the screen... which is showing some kind of racing game. She's never seen a car before, let alone a video game, so that really isn't helping her at all.]

It says "start"... does it want me to do something?

1. Work?

(It's a quiet... Whatever time it is? Time is definitely one of the things he cannot comprehend in this place. That aside, there's not a soul in Heavenly Blanc as of now, so Ren takes the opportunity to organize the place for the next customer - if they can still be called that.

This place has quickly became of great importance to Ren, the resemblance of home drawing him to it each and every day. It's a sense of normalcy to pick up the apron from under the counter and help those who are looking for some comfort - be it in company, or in coffee.

He is cleaning the tables when the customer arrives, smiling and offering a gentle nod.)

Welcome!

2. Almost a party

(Ah, a crowd at Heavenly Blanc! This was uncommon and Ren is going hard - putting together coffee orders, as Tifa herself had already said there was no way he'd serve alcohol. Sounded good to him! He does what he can, taking orders and just overall being delighted by the electricity that makes the lights flicker. With the Drinks book open in front of him, Ren attempts each (seemingly) non-alcoholic beverage there is, leaving them lined-up on the counter for the brave ones.)

How is it? (He asks whoever took one for the team.)

3. A Series of Unlucky Events

(When Ren stretched his arms earlier, he definitely should have kept his eyes open. The sting in his arm is still uncomfortable under the blazer he is currently wearing, but he thinks little about it as he moves to explore the new building.

On the way, he had tripped several times, each time more painful and damaging than the other. When he finally stepped into the library - opening the gate with an accidental screeching sound from the wood that was too loud not to turn heads towards the entrance. So much for not calling attention?

Something was very, very wrong, he could tell, but the confirmation came when he tiptoes to reach for a book, when he slips and a mountain of knowledge fall upon him. Buried beneath all the books, he emerges and rubs his head for a second or two, processing the mess around him.

Not his lucky day at all.)

Ren searches - not at the tables, not looking for a book in any of the shelves... But the trail of fluff on the floor catches his attention. Following it, he finds Akechi with his dagger and he instinctively patted himself in his confusion. When...??

That's not the most important thing here. What he sees is Akechi and his innocent victim, to which he gazes, eyebrows almost fusing with each other as he puts the scene together.)

LIBRARY
[Frank happened upon the library quite by accident. When he first arrived on one side of the lake, he had walked past the dome without looking inside. He had thought to revisit this after spending his first night near the cafe, but the dome now seems dwarfed by the castle, so that's where he's ended up in first.

The space is quiet, with tall ceilings, and the lonely sound of his boots traversing the old floor echo hauntingly down the shelves. He's not sure what to make of it at first. A children's library with a bar makes for conflicting assumptions.

Soon enough, the titles on the spine take his interest and he's not thinking too hard about the teddy bears or the wine bottles. He reaches out for the Geography book but ends up covering the back of someone else's hand instead, clearly eyeing up the same book or perhaps thinking the same thing he is.

Pulling back quickly, he takes a small step backwards and glances at the person standing next to him before ducking his head.]

Sorry. Go ahead.

HEAVENLY BLANC
[Once Frank finishes up at the library, having traced a map of the world and marked out the landmarks, and scribbled down some ideas to try about drinks without alcohol or electricity, he heads back to the Heavenly Blanc where he had previously found some coffee beans and water.

He's surprised to see a few more people gathering there, but he remains cautious. He's got enough rage simmering inside him, surging just beneath his skin to light up the Eiffel Tower but he seems calm enough right now. Mostly he's just in survival mode and trying to figure out his next move. For better or worse, thoughts of unresolved grief and trauma haven't had a chance to fester yet.]

Hey. [He tips his chin towards the person he's talking to. It's mostly body language with Frank, to compensate for the general ineptitude with social graces. If some people are social butterflies, he's a 6'3" big, unwelcome, ugly brown moth.] When did this place light up?

A) (The books are new, as is the library. This is of interest: they will observe and record data.

Upon discovering that the books contain usable data, they are surprised, upon discovering that this data differs between copies of the same book, they are curious, and on discovering a regional pokedex that contains an unusually large amount of data about them, they let out a long stream of startled Geth chatter, speaking of alerts and errors and possibly even voicing bits of debate between their programs.

They take that book, placing it into the backpack that came with them when they were brought here from Enso, and begin to seek similar discrepancies.

It is, perhaps, a little odd to watch them, with the rapidfire way they flip through the pages, absorbing information as fast as they see it. Sometimes they stop and flip back a page to examine something more closely. They're pretty absorbed in their reading, and likely won't notice anyone who doesn't try to get their attention.)

B) (Legion loves videogames.

The discovery of the lighthouse was fascinating when they first saw it, but with the presence of functioning power it is a delight, at least until they attempt to start up a game and find that they cannot.

They sag a bit, chattering to themselves in confusion.)

The older gentleman in the labcoat just laughs at Izuku's question, reaching up to casually brush the glass from his grey hair. Notably, he hasn't touched any of the drinks in this place -- he hasn't felt thirsty yet, and he doesn't really trust them anyway.

"I've had much worse than this on almost a daily basis, thanks to my research. I'm fine, my boy, please don't worry." He points out the various pieces of glass on Izuku's person, and will reach out to brush them away if he doesn't do it himself. "And you? Are you alright?"

Nearby there's a small open notebook, filled with sketches and notes about the world they're in. Some of them might be familiar if he's been to the library already -- they're exact copies of some of the sketches in the books there. Or are some of the sketches in the library books exact copies of what's in his little notebook?

[There's a lot of people in this one cafe. That's a fact, but it's not, like, weird. It's normal. It's no big deal, right? He's just wondering if that means someone owns this place and if that person, whoever may be, is charging for drinks, because he's broke.

Of course, he's just sitting there when two idiots near the counter get into an argument. He rolls his eyes, letting out a small 'tch' of annoyance as he listens along, humming. And tthata's when he hears 'POP' and something falls into his hair. What the--

And then a green-haired kid, who was sitting nearby, asks if he's alright.]

Uh. I dunno. There was a pop. Something broke, right?

...I'm kinda scared to move.

[ SCREEEEEEEE. That was the first cue someone else had entered, and he winces a bit, hearing the noise. Oof. That was painful. He barely glances up from the questions book, mockingly mumbling to himself one of the questions - 'Road work ahead?']

I suuuuure hope it does.

[He drones to himself, before hearing CRASH. He looks up again, and...that poor kid. He hops up, looking down at him, a small smile on his face.]

Yo, bro...you 'kay?

[He extends a hand -need some help up?]

That's a much more optimistic response than he was expecting, but he's glad to see that he's alright. He'll let Oak brush away some of the glass before he moves to pull a few of the larger pieces carefully out of his hair, wincing.

"I'm fine! Though...you must do some dangerous research, in that case."

And incidentally, Izuku has been in the library by now, so those sketches and notes are immediately of interest to him. He won't point it out yet though, curious to see what he'll have to say about his research on his own, first.

[You'd think it would be no big deal, but it seems like getting a lot of people in one area like this is apt to cause anything that requires energy to function to go a little haywire...which was immediately evident in what happened just then with the arguing couple.

Izuku nods, reaching up carefully to his own hair to feel around to make sure he brushes away any minute pieces of glass.]

The light, up there. Some glass fell just now.
