June Test Drive Meme

Test Drive Meme #2 New Locations Scenarios Comments
Welcome to Tabula Rasa's Test Drive Meme! This meme will be structured the same as an event or intro mingle so you can get a feel for how the game will be after it opens. Anyone is welcome to use this meme whether you plan to apply or not, and we will not be policing what characters or canons choose to play on here. Use it as you'd like and have fun!

Please note that none of the locations and changes described below will be included in the game when it opens. To help create an accurate impression of the game, we have included several imprints suggested by prospective players from the TDM Imprints Submissions. These prompts and locations are only for the TDM. A new arrangement of imprints will be picked when the game opens, which will likely look completely different from the TDM. Please keep this in mind when applying to the game in the future.

As this is our second TDM, you can find more detailed descriptions of the TDM-only locations on TDM #1. Feel free to use prompts from the previous TDM as well if you missed out on it!

Threads from the TDM may be used as samples on your application. TDM samples must be 2 threads with different characters, each with at least 5 comments from your character. Responding to other players on the TDM will also be part of an AC bonus, so we encourage anyone who plans to app to tag out to other players as well.

New Location: The Fendt Hope Library
Across from the USJ dome stands an enormous six-floor castle. The entrance boasts a large open room decorated with hanging bird cages, colorful teddy bears of varying sizes, and books. Many, many books, filling shelves that line every wall of the room. Traveling further within, there are hundreds of rooms and hallways arranged almost like a hotel, except every room is its own miniature library. Each room has the same layout, including a desk with a lamp, a round table with chairs in the center, a ladder, and rows of shelves on every wall. Teddy bears have been placed around each room, some of them sitting in chairs or on top of shelves and stacks of books. Many of the rooms feature large square windows with gold curtains drawn.

On the first floor near the entrance is a small tavern-like area with a bar, also surrounded by bookshelves on all sides. There are several wooden tables with chairs for guests to sit, though teddy bears have been placed in some of the seats. A large person-sized bear is seated behind the bar. The only shelf that isn't full of books is instead filled with old wine bottles.

There is a staircase that goes down to the basement, where more hallways and library rooms can be found. The basement rooms are much dingier with gray stone walls and no windows, though otherwise look the same as the other library rooms. Notably, the doors in the basement rooms can only be locked from the outside.

Scenario A: Think Positive!
The world has been filled with many things - animals, plants, people, objects... and among those objects, something has stood out. Objects that demand a greater purpose, to be filled with energy that they cannot themselves create. They have not gone unnoticed, and so, too, does the world notice. Machines are more complex than blocks of metal and plastic. Lights are more than wire and glass. What is it that breathes the life into them that people have come to expect?

Finally, the answer has become clear. Anger, disappointment, frustration: these are all feelings that have been poured into these lifeless objects. Energy, such as electricity, must surely come from those emotions.

That isn't to say making electricity is a simple task, or one that can be so easily controlled. A strong emotion can be quite shocking, but that strength must be maintained to power something for more than a few seconds. But you don't want to be electrocuting everyone you come into contact with, either, so with a bit of coordination, a group of people will have much better luck than one person by themselves.

A crowd in the Heavenly Blanc is enough to make the lights flicker, and you might even be able to get the jukebox going. The music sounds a bit strange, with titles and lyrics that almost seem jumbled together from several different songs, but a tune is still a tune. The lighthouse arcade is especially lively, machines buzzing and blaring with noise the moment anyone steps in, though you'll need a friend or two to play along if you want it to get the game to start. The games, too, seem like a bit of a jumbled mess - or maybe Initial DANCE Taikoaster Versus is just ahead of its time.

Most electronics will now function, provided they have the energy source to do so. More advanced functions may not work correctly, such as long-distance connections. The more complex the device, the more emotional power you'll need to use it.

Scenario B: Take A Look, It's In A Book
With the addition of a another library, books have become an important feature to the world's landscape. Words that were once a jumbled mess have been reformed, arranged into something that can now be understood. Unfortunately, there is still a lack of content to fill every book in the world - most of them are identical copies of the same few books, though there may be slight variations between copies.

Geography contains an accurate map of the known world, including detailed descriptions and sketches of important landmarks and buildings. Any observations that people have made thus far have been noted here, including a few direct quotes. It also describes some of the flora and fauna, though it doesn't go into much detail beyond where they can be found. Each copy has a chapter at the end titled "The Rest Of The World" containing hundreds of blank pages.

Regional Pokédex is a bestiary of all the creatures currently residing in the world. There are only 5 entries, with the rest of the book filled with the same image of a large question mark in a circle at the center of each page. Some of the copies of the book use different names for the same creatures, but the first four entries in each copy describes fireys, jellyrabbits, ghowls, and the Eiffel Tower in the style of short observational notes. The average height, weight, and footprint shape of each creature is also listed. The fifth entry has no title, but lists the average height, weight, and approximate footprint shape of every single person in the world as if they were a single species. The descriptions on this page are much more disjointed and contain wildly different information across copies, but all of the entries list observations and physical details of individuals that have arrived in the world.

Questions Vol.1 is a book of questions. Every question about the world that someone has voiced thus far has been listed somewhere in this book. Some questions are detailed and specific, while others are single word questions like "sleep?" There are no answers provided, but some of the pages have handwritten theories underneath that vary between copies. All of the theories match what people have discussed among themselves so far.

Drinks is a recipe book. It lists several recipes for simple drinks one can make with water, alcohol, coffee beans, and tea leaves. Nearly all of the recipes have an alcoholic variant, even when it doesn't make sense. Each recipe includes step by step instructions on how to prepare the ingredients without electricity. This book also details everything people have observed about the world's water supply and its relaxing properties.

Scenario C: Lucky Buns
Luck might seem a simple idea on the surface: if you have good luck, good things happen to you, and if you have bad luck then bad things happen. Where, however, does luck come from? Everyone has different ideas and different superstitions surrounding the concept. One such superstition is tied to rabbits, which is like a fluffy, tentacled creature that swims quietly through the air. A rabbit's luck is tied to its feet. However, touching this particular creature's feet tends to sting and hurt people. On that basis, then, touching the jellyrabbit's feet is clearly bad luck, and so anyone who has felt that sting will experience other forms of bad luck. Whether this comes in the form of trips, falls, getting lost or similar kinds of misfortune relies entirely upon what one's individual idea of bad luck is.

Conversely, touching other parts of the creature must be tied to good luck. Many people do quite like to pet soft and fluffy creatures, after all, so it's only natural that doing so would gift them with good luck. Perhaps they might find things more easily, meet people with similar interests, win games of chance more often, or find a $100 note in their back pocket - money might have no meaning here, but if this is what people consider 'good luck', then that is what will happen.

Once a streak of luck, good or bad, is triggered, it does not wear off on its own. It can only be replaced by luck of an opposing nature, or removed entirely by touching one of the other local creatures.

The creatures' tie to luck is not immediately apparent. Once people learn and understand, however, the information will soon find its way into a copy of the library's Regional Pokédex.

winds_voice: (Dragon - Surprise)

Eleytheria | Original | OTA

[personal profile] winds_voice 2020-06-29 06:30 pm (UTC)(link)
[Though Eley was a Spirit by nature, and therefore technically formless, he most often showed himself to others in the form of a white and gold serpentine dragon when wishing to interact, taking to the air with the aid of four feathered wings. His size was usually large enough that he should be able to carry multiple people should he so choose...

...however, it seems that since his arrival, Eley has found himself shrunk down so he is just small enough to fit inside the various new buildings. Not only that but there is no wind to carry him, no wind for him to direct or play with as were his usual powers. This world was too still and lifeless for him, and it made him anxious.

Scenario A - Arcade

[What else do you need to increase your anxiety? To find yourself stepping into a room full of machines that at first had seemed silent... dead... completely non-threatening... and to find that the more people filtered in, the more they seemed to spring to life with colours and sounds until Eley's ears were ringing from the cacophony!

The dragon backs up against a wall, standing right beside an arcade cabinet with two plastic guns embedded in it. He stares at it, eyes wide.]

Just what are these machines? Are they... weapons? Are humans using them to fight one another?

Scenario B - Library

[Being a creature of the air, Eleytheria rarely entered enclosed spaces as it made him feel restricted, uncomfortable. Yet, given that the outside in this world also unnerved him with its general blank-ness and its seemingly nonsensical constructions, he thought he may as well search for a place of solace amongst the mayhem.

Upon poking his head into the library, the dragon surveys the many, many shelves of books and recalls the Royal Library that resides in the Agkelon Palace, the place he now thought of as 'home'. It was a quiet place where academics pored over tomes to learn the many wonders of the world. Perhaps he too could find some peace within the pages.

Eley approaches the nearest shelf, running a claw over the spines that lined the shelves... before realising that they all appear to be the same few books. Really? Even this place was devoid of detail? Oh well, he'll try to remove one of the books labelled Questions Vol. 1 and while he has no trouble with that, he fails to take note of where his tail is going as he turns around to find a place to read it.

...he may have just sent several books flying off the shelf with that tail swipe, oops.]

karappo: (okay done with this batch thank god)

[personal profile] karappo 2020-06-29 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
[Of course Osomatsu gets the book on alcohol while Karamatsu gets the Tome of Cryptic Questions...

But okay, fine. He'll bite. He's glad enough not to be wandering this place completely alone, even if Osomatsu doesn't exactly have the wisest game plan for their survival here. He takes the book and flips to a random page.

It is complete and utter nonsense. Just lists of question after question with zero context, leaving him to wonder what the point of it is. It feels more like someone's own notes than an actual book.]

While some of these questions are truly thought provoking, the fact that they have no answers is not exactly...helpful, wouldn't you agree?
zenryokubatankyu: now that i'm unemployed I can finally weave an intricate fan universe based on the chick fil a cows who are always holding the signs up (That could finally fix me)

[personal profile] zenryokubatankyu 2020-06-29 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
[Naturally.

Osomatsu peers over the book, then glances at his own book. Then that book, then his own book.]

Maybe we're supposed to answer all the questions in it.

[He snaps his fingers, seemingly getting an idea.]

Got it! It's a fantasy-sorta thing to prove how smart we are!!! The trick is to answer all the questions, then once we do, the book will glow, and boom.

We'll get magic. It's just part of our quest.

[This is a fantastical leap in logic that is akin to trying to jump over the Grand Canyon in one bound, but again, that's Osomatsu for ya.]
zenryokubatankyu: i have evolved byeond the need for "furniture" and i enjoy resting on the floor like an animal while counting all the cool cash im saving (Lonely (I'm a lonely bitch))

S'okay! That's why we're a team! It's sort of a good cop bad cop sorta thing, except I'm not actually that bad, and they were the jerks, so.

[He snickers softly, smiling a bit.]

Don't worry about it, 'kay, kid? We did good. With that, the lights should be saved. Now we can relax~ and we can chill out, get drinks, I can get a beer, you can get...a soda because you look underaged...all that good stuff.

[Osomatsu is an asshole, but at least he's a lovable one.]

Even with the anxiety outside. I'm surprised everyone's taking this so well, honestly...I've been kinda on-edge myself.

[Ah, shit. She's getting sentimental about what she used to have. It isn't as if Goro hasn't been part of investigations where people got mushy about what or who they've lost -- just usually he's the reason they lost it, so he doesn't really feel too bad. To himself, he'll concede that seemingly boundless empathy is Ren's forte, not his.

But at the very least he can play the part. His expression morphs from interrogating detective to something more sympathetic, the set of his eyes just a little less harsh.]

I'm sorry, I know this must be difficult for you, [he says because it sounds like the right thing that someone who cares would say in this kind of situation. He even sets his pen down to try to take some of the pressure off, wraps his gloved hands around the warm cup of coffee instead.] Please, take your time.

[And then, he tries for a smile, tries to lighten the mood just a little.]

I'm sure it was better than that mess of an attic the original Leblanc had.

[-Lighten the mood, and drag Ren at the same time, though his smile is nothing but innocent. As if he didn't wish he'd had something like Leblanc's attic for himself.]

Yes.

(The little lights on the sides of their head are now distinctly red.)

Please refrain from destruction of entertainment modules.

(They were hoping to play that game, eventually. Now, in addition to them being accosted by a random stranger, they've lost the chance to do so.)

Ah...

[Goro's not certain at what point this conversation moved outside of the realm of his experience. Perhaps it wasn't ever there.

Shit. Usually he has rehearsed, canned lines chosen specifically to make people like him. For once, he doesn't know what to say, so he says something honest.]

I'm sorry, I'm afraid I don't understand. Do you mean someone would read to you?
simulatio: (038)

[personal profile] simulatio 2020-06-29 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
[At least it's not malicious interest for once. It's Goro trying very hard not to look like some kind of weird otaku.]

How impressive. I used to carry a laser saber myself, but it seems it didn't make the trip here.

[He leaves out the part that his was literally just a child's toy, and only actually worked in a cognitive world. Even if it had been on his person when he was sucked away into this strange place, it likely wouldn't have been much more than a decorative hilt, like how his model raygun is currently just an expensive paperweight.]

I couldn't help but notice there's no guard on the weapon. Isn't that dangerous?
forethinking: (5. Where have you been?)

[personal profile] forethinking 2020-06-29 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
(Akechi doesn't mean it and Ren knows it very well. "Brainless sentimentality", he'd call it if it were Ren himself who was upset - but instead, it's someone who Akechi hasn't shown his true colors to and needs something from. Not an ounce of surprise comes to Ren at the other's reaction.

Himself, he puts away the notebook with no intention of reaching back to it. There are definitely other people he can ask these things to and his major, more immediate concern was Tifa's well-being. "The bar had" doesn't go unnoticed either, with the information that it had been destroyed playing back in his mind.

With a hand on Tifa's shoulder, Ren is dropping it there if she deems necessary. There's no reason to poke at this at the expense of his friend being upset, no immediate threat to solve when there are other much mysterious locations that perhaps have more relevance than this.)

You don't have to talk about it.

(The attic comment didn't raise much of a reaction - he tried to make do with what he had!! It was way worse before and at least he had a bed when he moved... Regardless of it being basically a mattress on top of milk crates. It's still there, by the way.)
simulatio: (199)

[personal profile] simulatio 2020-06-29 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
[Spoken like a fool. Everyone has something to hide, in Goro's experience; the severity of its exposure may change, but there isn't a single person who doesn't have some kind of secret.

But he simply smiles and crosses to one of the bookshelves, pulling out one of the copies of the Regional Pokédex and opening it to the fifth entry, the one containing descriptions of each of them, mushed together as if they were all somehow one thing.]

Someone, or something, is very dedicated to ensuring these books are full of our information. I'm certain if you'll look, you'll find something about yourself listed here. Or perhaps- [he sets the Pokédex down on the table and takes a copy of Questions Vol. 1,] in this book here, you'll find a question you asked someone about this place, or your musings on the state of things. You'll note that my observation about fire being hot, but not containing the property to burn things, is listed in this book.

[He sets that down on the table as well as if presenting evidence, quirking an eyebrow at the other man.]

Surely you can see my concerns?
simulatio: (203)

[personal profile] simulatio 2020-06-29 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I... see.

[There's a lot to unpack there, starting with sentient robots and ending with them being destroyed by their alien creators. It all just sounds like the premise of a movie to him, enough so that in normal circumstances, he'd assume he's being pranked.]

I... apologize, if I'm bringing up unpleasant memories.
mightdoriya: (pic#13093348)

[personal profile] mightdoriya 2020-06-29 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
It is...if strange. It's hard to imagine things working off the energy of the people here, but it's hard to deny with stuff like...that happening.

["That" punctuated with a nod towards some of the glass.]
mightdoriya: (Creati)

[personal profile] mightdoriya 2020-06-29 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Right...

[Geeze, he didn't even think about that. He really hopes people will try to be a little more careful with schooling their feelings for a bit from now on, at least while they're in here.]

I guess the bright side is that even though it's inconvenient and not really precise, as long as there are people here the electricity won't die.
mightdoriya: (6Dc1tb6)

[personal profile] mightdoriya 2020-06-29 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh. It's a little surprising for him to suddenly hide the evidence of anything he might have been working on like that, and it's enough to prompt Izuku to quickly look away, feeling like he'd done something wrong in catching a glimpse.

"R-right, sorry. I didn't mean to pry. It looked really interesting...and intricate."

And potentially fear inducing? But he seems more intrigued, for sure.
simulatio: (038)

[personal profile] simulatio 2020-06-30 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
"Very impressive," Goro says, as if he means it. These terms mean nothing to him, but it certainly does sound like a list of accomplishments that don't exist in the real world.

Still, it's obviously something important to the doctor in front of him.

"Are you capable of constructing robots here, then? Perhaps you could dismantle some of the arcade machines for materials."
simulatio: (039)

[personal profile] simulatio 2020-06-30 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
[It takes every ounce of Goro's self-control not to flinch back as she lashes out. His left hand twitches as if to reach into his uniform jacket, where he'd hidden his toy raygun. This isn't the Metaverse, though; it's just a child's toy right now, suitable only for bluffing and intimidation. Revealing himself as a threat would be counterproductive right now, so he just holds his hands up, palms out, with another smile, as if to prove he means no harm.]

Yes, I've heard about those ghouls. They're mentioned in some of the books as well.

[He lowers his hands and hums quietly.]

This is a strange and unknown place. It's not a bad idea that we all stay on guard, until we know more.

An herbal or chamomile tea is generally recommended for someone who's having trouble sleeping. Normally I would say to avoid darker teas with a high caffeine content, but...

[He crosses his arms and brings his hand to his lips thoughtfully.]

I'm not certain we even possess the ability to sleep right now. I've been awake for hours, and have yet to feel even the slightest exhaustion. I take it it's the same for you?

(Slightly startled, they turn and look, first up, and then down. Their headflaps lift at the sight of a fellow synthetic, and they chatter in Geth. It's a language of math, probably easy enough to learn to interpret for a machine, but even if it weren't the nature of this world causes it to be understandable anyway. Something about Turing's model being unknown to them-Legion is utterly unfamiliar with ROMs.)

Negative. (They look back at the game.)

That was almost a year ago.

[ back when things were... complicated, but not in ashes at least. sometimes she thought about returning. when yoda looked up at her, the last time she saw him, she wondered if there would be a day when she would come back. the darkness of darth sidious has robbed her of that option now.

she looks at anakin, remembers what maul told her, and tries to push it out of mind. all she wanted to do after that was talk to him. now he's here and that crushing weight in her chest only pushes down further.
]

Anakin, I... [ she stops, teeth gritting, not sure she can even speak of what has happened. she breathes in, tight. ] I'm sorry. For not reaching out. That - I won't reach out to you. It isn't because of you, I just... I needed space.

[Even with the uncertainty and everything that just happened, Osomatsu's attitude about things causes Izuku to smile in spite of himself.]

Yeah...I guess I'm used to strange things happening, though not usually this strange.

[Strange as in a Villain with a weird Quirk, not....all of this.]

If we're a team, I need to know your name. I'm Midoriya Izuku.

[Hornet has the grace to be sheepish when she sees Goro's reaction. Frustrated she may be, but there's nothing to be gained by terrorizing some hapless bystander. She steps back, leaving him well out of her needle's range— though she can always throw it, if need be— and shifts her blade back to a relaxed position.]

"Ghouls. I'll remember that. Better to put a name to your enemy."

[She slides the toy off the end of her blade, examining it closely. The stuffing seems odd, another unfamiliar texture between her fingers, but she doesn't spare it more than a thoughtful head-tilt before tossing it aside.]

"Perhaps I am most unnerved by how safe everything else is. It feels wrong not to trip over danger at every turn."

[Cole hasn't spent as much time in the lighthouse, as before the more recent changes it didn't seem to attract many people, and the metal and glass boxes didn't mean anything to him. But now that he has some (very basic) understanding of electricity and the (apparently unusual) way it works here, he recalls how many of those things were in the lighthouse and decides to go take another look.]

[Cole has never met a dragon that wasn't aggressive, or at least defensive of its territory. Though this creature doesn't look like any dragons he's familiar with. It's more like a big fuzzy snake. And it talks like a person. Maybe it's something else entirely.]

[Most importantly, it seems distressed.]

[The amount of lights and noise are unusual for him too, but he focuses on the creature, approaching without getting too close.]

I don't think so. They make a lot of noise and lights, but they're supposed to make people happy, I think. They're not dangerous.

[Though he's only seen the ones in the bar/cafe in action before now. And he has no idea what a gun even is.]

[Not being understood is a normal occurrence for him, at least. Not even he understands everything about himself. But he's having to try and explain himself a lot more than usual, now that everyone can see him. It's hard.]

No. People talk less but make more noise when they read. I hear it, feel it.

But not here. I'm too real, here.
