Not that he blames him, he had a rough time after he lost his own daughter-in-law... still, for a fleeting moment, he stares at Amber like he's seen a ghost.
But then he remembers all the time shenanigans going on in this place -- the boy claiming to be his grandson is far too old, to start with. So instead of looking at a dead girl... perhaps she just came from a point in time from before she died. Yes, that must be it.
"Oh, uh, my lab itself isn't too big, but I have a lot of land outside of it for the Pokemon to live and play and run around on." He awkwardly brings his attention back to their conversation.
"My name is Samuel Oak. Maybe you've heard of me?" He's only the most famous and respected Pokemon researcher around, and something of a 'science education' celebrity ala Bill Nye besides.
